More nutrients than you can think
are packed into this nut!
As you become older, your body goes through many changes. While
there is no way to avoid the natural aging process, eating healthy foods can
still help slow it down.
Walnuts are one of the most excellent nuts to eat to slow aging,
according to Courtney D'Angelo, MS, RD, author at Go Wellness.
"They're an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, protein,
polyphenols, and vitamin E," D'Angelo says.
Learn more about how walnuts' nutrients can help your aging
process.
1. Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids.
"[omega-3 fatty acids] can be a fantastic
anti-inflammatory," says D'Angelo, "which can help reduce
inflammation in the face, strengthen skin membrane, and give your skin a
glow."
Not only that, but according to the Cleveland Clinic, these fatty
acids can help minimize vascular stiffening caused by aging, lower
triglycerides, and lessen your risk of cardiovascular disease.
2. Walnuts contain protein.
Walnuts are also a high-protein snack, with up to 15 grams of
protein per cup!
As you become older, getting enough protein in your diet can
"help maintain collagen production in the skin," according to
D'Angelo. It's also been shown that getting enough protein throughout the day
will help prevent muscle loss as you get older.
3. Walnuts are packed with antioxidants.
Walnuts also contain a healthy compound known as polyphenols,
according to D'Angelo.
"This molecule has a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory
bioactivity," she explains, "which can help boost your immune system
and fight illness."
According to a report from Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, polyphenols have been linked to protection against cancer, diabetes,
cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis. According to a report from Oxidative

4. Walnuts are a good source of vitamin E.
Last but not least, walnuts are high in vitamin E.
"Research has shown that vitamin E can help preserve skin
moisture and repair skin tissue, both of which contribute to your skin looking
younger," D'Angelo explains.
Vitamin E, which serves as an antioxidant and helps protect your brain's cells from oxidative stress, is also known to aid cognitive function and slow cognitive decline.
