Green tea may be one of the world's healthiest drinks, according to studies that suggest it might help speed up metabolism, lower the risk of some cancers, and boost cognitive health. Green tea can also help reduce the aging process as if its long list of advantages wasn't already impressive enough.

"Antioxidants in green tea have various health benefits, including strengthening the immune system (preventing disease), lowering inflammation, and stimulating collagen production, which helps the skin seem younger," explains D'Angelo.

More antioxidants than other teas

Green tea has high levels of polyphenols, a type of antioxidant present in various plant substances and believed to help protect against diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

According to a study published in Nutrients, green tea has the highest level of polyphenols of any tea, with polyphenol antioxidants making for around 30% of the tea.

While various types of tea might help you age naturally, green tea is the most excellent choice for a long list of health benefits.

Are there any adverse side effects of green tea?

Green tea has countless anti-aging characteristics, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing! "You may not want to drink too much green tea because it contains caffeine, and caffeine has all of the terrible side effects connected with it," D'Angelo says.

If you're likely to experience anxiety or jitters, for example, too much caffeine can exacerbate these symptoms, so it's essential to keep track of your caffeine intake with green tea.

For comparison, an 8-ounce cup of coffee contains approximately 96 milligrams of caffeine, while an 8-ounce cup of green tea contains about 28 milligrams. If you're used to drinking coffee, you might not notice the caffeine in green tea as much.
