Experts advise skipping this one dish even
more—your liver will thank you.
NAFLD (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) is a dangerous condition.
This disease, in which fat accumulates in the liver, can be harmless or might
progress to become a significant health concern. The foods and beverages you
consume can either put your liver in danger or help you keep this vital organ
healthy. New research has discovered a relationship between red meat
consumption and NAFLD development.
Researchers from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan
School of Public Health looked at data from approximately 78,000 women over a
two-decade period for the study, which was published in the journal Clinical
Nutrition. They discovered that people who ate one serving or less of red
meat per week had a lower risk of NAFLD than those who ate more, with those who
ate red meat every day (or multiple times per day) having the most significant
trouble.
Furthermore, these effects were detected in both processed and
unprocessed meat. Even if you choose to eat whole foods, it might not be a good
idea when it comes to the liver. If you're going to eat red meat anyway, you
should choose the unprocessed cut. Processed foods are connected with many
additional health risks, including a weakened immune system and an increased
risk of developing several chronic diseases.
Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RDN, author of Skinny Liver and
registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic, remarked on the study, saying,
"Future studies are needed to research and analyze the role of red meat
and red, processed meat in NAFLD." "For the time being, consume more
plants, less refined carbohydrates, sugar, and processed foods, and treat red
meat like a cookie—once in a while."
Make the swap wherever you can. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the US Department of Health and Human Services, patients with NAFLD are more likely to develop cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, among other health problems. Most people who have NAFLD do not have any symptoms at all. If you have any concerns, consult your doctor right away. However, fatigue and pain in the upper right side of your abdomen are two signs to check for.
