While you probably already know that drinking enough water is good for your health, experts say it's even more critical if you want a flatter tummy.
Samantha McKinney, RD, CPT, a registered dietitian and personal trainer at Life Time Fitness, recommends drinking half your body weight in ounces of water per day. "This not only hydrates detoxify, and promotes energy, but it also helps you naturally minimize your intake of sugary beverages like soda pop and sweetened coffee drinks."
Make Sure You Get Enough Protein.
Increasing your protein consumption does more than only keep you fuller for longer; it can also help you achieve that flat tummy by displacing less healthy foods from your diet.
"At each meal and snack, consume one gram of protein every pound of ideal body weight," McKinney advises. "Getting enough protein in your diet naturally helps regulate blood sugar and insulin levels, as well as curb cravings for processed foods because protein is so full."
Load Up on Vegetables
You might believe you're getting enough vegetables as it is. However, McKinney advises that you may need to increase your vegetable intake dramatically to acquire a flat stomach and reveal your abs. To help reset some of your hormones, McKinney suggests eating five to seven cups of non-starchy vegetables every day.
"Vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients are all present in this. It also contains fiber that helps to manage your appetite and balance your hormones, "McKinney clarifies.
Eat More Slowly
While hectic days at home or work may cause you to eat quickly, spending more time to savour your meals can help you lose weight.
"Swallowing air and carbs are the two main causes of gas and bloating," says Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD, a registered dietitian with Balance One Supplements. "Eating too rapidly can induce bloating because you swallow more air than usual."
