Some things are better when they are combined. Take, for example, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. They're both amusing people on their own, but together they've made some of the best laugh-out-loud movies of all time.
It's the same with lemon and green tea. They've both been found to help people lose weight independently, but when combined, they're even more powerful at fighting fat and slimming around the middle. Purdue University researchers examined juices, creamers, and other additions regularly combined with teas using a model that simulates digestion to arrive at this conclusion. Citrus juice and vitamin C, both abundant in fresh lemons, was found to enhance catechin levels by 60 percent after digestion, owing to their acidity, which has been demonstrated to aid catechins growth.
Though the study only looked at the effects of lemon on green tea, the researchers believe that some of the findings may also apply to black tea, which is wonderful news for tea drinkers who want to lose weight.
